Incorporating reclaimed and local wood throughout the design and décor of a home is becoming one of the latest trends. By buying locally grown wood or recycling reclaimed lumber, companies and individuals are able to help support their local economy. Leading the pack of the latest trend are three of Northern Virginia’s own.
Shenandoah Farm Tables
Shenandoah Farm Table’s wood and stone comes from Heritage Farm Buildings throughout Loudoun County and tri-state area. As a true member of the community and in an effort to support their local economy, surrounding neighbors contact them to buy and salvage the wood and stone from their unused barns and outbuildings.
Along with the help of their neighbors, they safely remove the old buildings while preserving the beautifully worn lumber and reuse it to make their famous heritage tables, chairs and many other hand-crafted pieces of furniture.
Their approach to buying and reusing local lumber and stone may be a little more time consuming and labor intensive, but the result is a beautiful, unique, hand-made piece straight from the Shenandoah Valley area.
If you know of an antique farm building that is falling down or being demolished, please give them a call and help preserve a piece of local history.
Carpenter Beach Construction
The demand for locally grown wood was so great, that in 2009 Carpenter Beach Construction launched a new service titled “Local Wood.” The service provided kiln and air dried lumber for cabinetry, flooring and custom furniture. The wood is locally harvested, sawn, dried and distributed throughout Loudoun County and Clarke County.
With the new service in place, Charlie Beach, the co-owner of Carpenter Beach Construction, hopes that locals will find a new purpose for the trees on their property by having them harvested, sawn and dried to create beautiful custom wood products.
Having been in the business for over 25 years, Carpenter Beach Construction specializes in custom home renovation, home additions and home remodeling throughout Purcellville and the entire Northern Virginia area.
